Sacha Smith
Sacha Smith is a British/Canadian soprano based in London, England. Her warm and radiant soprano propels her love of story-telling to audiences across North America and the UK.
Her recent work includes staged scenes as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Helena (A Midsummer Night's Dream), and Suzel (L'amico Fritz) with Garsington Opera as part of British Youth Opera's Serena Fenwick Programme. She was named an Alternate Finalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition hosted by the Kurt Weill Foundation, and has recently completed a short course on Developing Dramatic Voices at the National Opera Studio.
Her roles include the Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro, Aunt Norris in Mansfield Park, and Aurore in Le Portrait de Manon with the University of Toronto Opera, alongside Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) at Eastman Opera Theatre. She is currently preparing the roles of Liù (Turandot) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni).
Sacha's concert work spans repertoire from Mozart to Sondheim, including performances of Berg's Sieben frühe Lieder and Dvořák's Opus 83, and the Baker's Wife (Into the Woods). She has appeared in choruses at Carnegie Hall, Kodak Hall and Meridian Hall.
Sacha continues to build her artistic home across two continents and is drawn to roles that let her dig into a character's psychology as much as her vocal line. Outside music making, Sacha is happiest over good coffee and good conversation, cycling around London and hosting dance parties in her kitchen.
Sacha holds a MMus in Opera from the University of Toronto.
